Open Letter to Anthony Hamilton

Mr. Hamilton —

You, sir, have the lyrical bidding and melodic disposition of a poet whose vernacular is interpretable by only an enlightened few. I fear you may dwell the musical realm as an underrated, stifled artist because of the limits of your reach. I wonder why that is. My first guess would be your beard. It’s scanty, and people don’t like to look at sparse patches of facial hair. I don’t mind it though; my older brother has the same problem, but I digress. Back to my admiration of your talent. As an individual might jack one by the front collar of their shirt, so do your soulful expressions grasp my heart. Your words are so simple, yet they speak and evoke more than just the ears can hear. Every time I listen to you I am filled and anchored with a deep, overwhelming flux of emotions. I love it. There are very few artists - and even fewer male ones - that have the ability to captivate me the way you can every single time.

I appreciate you as an articulate artist. I appreciate you as a man who knows what it means to truly love, honor, and respect the woman who stands by his side. I appreciate you as a man who is able, willing, and proud to proclaim all that love entails, especially in a time when all that matters is money, cars, and hoes. I pray that the man I marry knows how to love me in ways that you sing about - with more than his body or his riches, but with the very depths of his heart and soul.
